Update: Dredging of Lower Willamette postponed by Corps

Oct. 2010-- The Army Corps of Engineers postponed dredging of Post Office Bar, a stretch of the Lower Willamette two miles upstream from the confluence with the Columbia, following pressure from the Audubon Society of Portland and other environmental groups opposing the project.  Concerns over federally-listed endangered salmonids and birds caused the Corps to postpone its dredging plans, and the agency instead decided to increase monitoring of the area.
